Porter Airline expands its horizons with new jet fleet

What’s changed is the airline’s acquisition of 50 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, jets that will permit Porter to fly non-stop in new markets.

Porter Airlines will begin flying out of Pearson Airport in two months time.

The airline has announced that as of February, 2023, Porter flights out of Pearson will have Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa as their first destinations.

Porter flights to Montreal and Ottawa will continue to be available from Billy Bishop airport as well.

What’s changed is the airline’s acquisition of 50 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, jets that will permit Porter to fly non-stop in new markets.

Porter has announced expansion to new destinations across North America (including the west coast and the southern U.S.) as well as in Mexico and the Caribbean.

The expansion begins with daily flights to Vancouver in February; that grows to three flights daily to  Vancouver by March.

Round-trip fares will start at $248.

Pearson to Ottawa flights — four daily — start February 1, and Pearson to Montreal flights start the same day. Initially, there will be three daily flights to Montreal, with the expectation that this will quickly grow to four a day.

Porter CEO Michael Deluce said in a statement last week that the addition of the E195-E2 aircraft, “Provides the ability to operate throughout North America, including the West Coast, better positioning us to serve the needs of many more business and leisure passengers.”

Over its 16 year history, Porter distinguished itself with excellent service, both on the ground and in the air.

It didn’t hurt that the airline was headquartered at Billy Bishop, the tiny Toronto island airport with the laid-back vibe.

Every Porter air passenger enjoys economy service that includes complimentary beer and wine (served in glassware), premium snacks, and no middle seats on any plane.

As customers can gate-check carry-on bags, Porter eliminated the usual on-board scuffles for overhead storage space.

With their new, longer flights, the airline will offer every PorterClassic passenger the option to buy such perks as fresh meals, travel flexibility and extra leg room.

Those perks are standard with PorterReserve, a new enhanced service that includes dedicated airport check-in, early boarding, more legroom, fresh meals on longer flights, Porter’s signature beer, wine and premium snacks, cocktails, two checked bags and the ability to change flights without a fee.

The airline will offer free WiFi to all passengers on the Embraer E195-E2 flights.  The jets have 132 seats with the same two-per-side configuration, so there are no middle seats on any Porter flight.
