A long-time Maple Leafs fan had one thing remaining on his bucket list — attend a game in person.
The man, identified only as Mike, got his wish Wednesday when he saw the Leafs win a thrilling game 3-2 over the New York Rangers thanks to Mitch Marner’s spectacular overtime goal.

According to Pete Dalliday, the play-by-play commentator for the Ontario Hockey League’s Peterborough Petes and National Lacrosse League’s Halifax Thunderbirds, Mike attended the game with Craig Meredith, of Peterborough.
“A sad but incredible story. Good job, Craig Meredith. You’re a good fella with a big heart,” Dailliday said in a follow-up tweet.
The Maple Leafs caught wind of the story and made a tweet of their own, saying they were honoured to have Mike in the building.
